Armin Frauenschuh

Born in Austria, he began his training at the ballet school of the Salzburg State Theatre with Prof. Rosa Hartlieb and completed it at the Hamburg State Opera with John Neumeier.
During his studies he was awarded the Birger-Bartholin Scholarship Award in Copenhagen.
His first engagement took him to the Dresden Ballet in 1993, where he was soon appointed soloist by Ballet Director Vladimir Derevianko. With the ensemble of the Saxon State Opera Ballet he stood on the stage of the Semper Opera for a full thirteen years. A teaching position for dance and movement education connected him with the Dresden Carl-Maria-von-Weber Academy of Music.
Afterwards he changed to Lode Devos for another seven years as a solo dancer at the Chemnitz Opera. There he also directed the ballet school, produced several large choreographic projects for children and was employed as choreographic assistant and training director.
His wealth of experience is influenced by working with many renowned choreographers such as John Neumeier, William Forsythe, Uwe Scholz, Glen Tetley, Jochen Ulrich, Stefan Thoss and Johan Inger.
Well-known teachers such as Peter Appel, Kevin Haigen, Christiane Marchant, Giselle Roberge, Andria Hall, Noella Pontois and Truman Finney influenced his artistic development.
During his two-decade stage career, he has appeared in over fifty productions of the classical, neoclassical and contemporary repertoire.
Guest performances, tours and gala invitations have taken him to many German theatres, to Italy, France and Switzerland.
Following his dancing career, he worked at the Anhaltisches Theater Dessau as artistic advisor to the ballet director Tomasz Kajdanski and also took over the organisation of the company.
From the 2014/15 season he moved to the Augsburg Theatre as ballet master and assistant to the ballet director Robert Conn. There he also took on extensive tasks in ensemble management, production assistance and dramaturgy. For the 2016/17 season he was appointed Deputy Ballet Director.
From 2017 he was engaged for two years by Ricardo Fernando as company manager and ballet master of the ballet at the newly founded Staatstheater Augsburg. At the Volkshochschule Augsburg he led the course "Theater unter der Lupe".
He then moved to Frankfurt to work as production manager, scheduler and tour manager with Jacopo Godani at the Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company.
In 2020 he was selected to take part in the advanced training course in theatre and music management at the Ludwig-Maximilian-University of Munich as a scholarship holder of the German Stage Association.
As a much sought-after guest ballet master, regular invitations have taken him to the ballet companies of Basel, Wiesbaden, Leipzig, Gelsenkirchen, Würzburg, Halle, Münster, Eisenach, Gießen, Salzburg and many others. At the Munich International Ballet School he taught master classes and summer academies.
He also acts as curator and presenter of ballet gala events, including at the Munich Gasteig and the Theater Augsburg, and gives introductions and lectures on dance.
Regular choreographic work and assistances in music theatre and acting complement his previous artistic activities.
